Optimal operating lighting
20 February 2023
Adequate lighting in the operating room contributes to the success of the operation, supports the decisions of the surgical team and their comfort of working. Appropriately selected, operating lights enable surgeons to work accurately – distinguishing the structures of the operative site and the type of tissue lesions, providing adequate contrast and colour reproduction, shadowless. Optimal operating lights should offer a wide modality of light intensity for different types of surgery. The quality of light influences efficiency, accuracy, and safety during operation. Surgical lighting systems, especially used in operating rooms, must provide the best visibility of small and low contrast objects with incisions of different depths and sizes in the operating room.1

The ALVO Vela operating lights have been enhanced to best support the work of surgeons. In addition to the refreshed design of the lights and handles, the parameters that significantly affect the quality of the emitted light have been improved, as well as the workmanship of the components, which increases the overall experience of the end users. ALVO Vela’s new design includes:
- A highly competitive range of light field diameter adjustment – 160-360 mm – allows maintaining a constant level of light intensity in various working conditions and the ability to control the value of this parameter from a non-sterile handle significantly improves working ergonomics
- Increase of the colour rendering index Ra (up to 97% in the basic version and up to 99% in the enhanced version) – the colours of the viewed objects are rendered in the most natural way, almost identical to those in natural light which prevents eyestrain
- New interface of the LCD control panel and wall panel based on the new interface of the ALVO Integra OR integration system – the new icons responsible for controlling the light’s parameters are more intuitive and easier to interpret by the user

ALVO Vela takes sustainable design to the next level:
- Ergonomic design that minimizes interference with the ventilation system’s airflow
- Sterile control handle allows precise positioning of the light, and non-sterile handles allow easy operation by the assisting team
- LED technology with low energy consumption and several times longer lifetime in comparison to traditional light sources
- ENDO mode available with four green LEDs with intensity control
